Preamble to submission:

Department of Arabic Language is one of the basic departments in the College of Education for The Humanities , University of  Kerbala. It was established with the establishment of the college in 1996 AD when it was affiliated with the University of  Babylon. The department continued to develop and expand until it now includes more than eight hundred students in preliminary morning and evening studies and about forty students. And a postgraduate student (Masters and Ph.D.), and the department includes forty-five faculty members, of whom (20) have the rank of (Professor) and (14) have the rank of Assistant Professor. The department is currently headed by Prof. Dr. Laith Qabil Al-Waily.

The department works to prepare qualified staff, contribute to the development of the educational process, participate in the development of educational thought, and cooperate with the Iraqi Ministry of Education in studying educational problems in the specialized problems in the various departments of the college.

Vision:

The Arabic Language Department, as part of the educational institution, is trying to assume its distinguished academic position in comparison to similar educational and academic institutions locally and internationally. In its local, regional and international environment, with the help of God Almighty.

Objectives:

The department seeks to achieve a set of goals, the most important of which are:

1- Preparing qualified staff  in accordance with modern educational trends, to work in the teaching profession in the secondary education stage and teachers’ institutes, by providing them with scientific knowledge and imparting them the attitudes and skills that qualify them to carry out the tasks of their profession effectively, and perform their work as mentors, coordinators, encouragers and motivators for their students, and are able to understand the needs of students and the characteristics of Their growth and preparation to face the demands of life in a rapidly evolving and changing era.

2- Contribute to the development of the educational process in the stages of education in all its aspects, and work to increase its effectiveness through holding specialized seminars and conferences that deal with the problems and obstacles that the educational process suffers from, as well as conducting research and studies aimed at diagnosing weaknesses in the educational system and making recommendations and proposals to address them and reduce them. Of which .

3- Participation in the development of educational thought and educational practices, the dissemination of modern educational trends and their applications, and the provision of educational advice in the specialized fields within the department of specialization of the college departments, as a service to the community and a solution to its problems.

4- Cooperating with the Ministry of Education in studying educational and educational problems, and contributing to the development of education in terms of goals, curricula, study plans, teaching methods and methods, evaluation and examination systems, and preparing and developing textbooks.

5- Training workers in the field of education, including managers, supervisors, and educational counselors, to raise their level and increase their professional experience, and inform them of all new developments in the various educational fields.

The message:

The Department of Arabic Language in the College of Education for The Humanities  seeks to make the Arabic language an effective presence in society, with its deep spiritual heritage represented by it being the language of the Noble Qur’an and the tongue of the great Messenger of God (PBUH), as well as its distinguished linguistic, literary and aesthetic heritage that is deep in the past. Preserving the exploits, glories, and different sciences of the Arabs, and conveying to us the pictures of their lives and morals, and preserving the Arabic spirit, originality, sobriety, and beauty, and then the Arabic Language Department took upon itself the service of the Arabic language and its literature, and presenting it to its followers in an authentic scientific way, in accordance with modern and advanced scientific methods.

Study in the department:

Department of Arabic Language studies the various sciences of the Arabic language and its literature, starting with the sciences of  Arabic language represented by Arabic grammar and morphology, jurisprudence and its sciences, and the sciences of Arabic rhetoric, passing through Arabic literature at its various stages (Arabic literature before Islam known as pre-Islamic literature, then Islamic and Umayyad literature, then Abbasid literature in its various eras, Next to him, he studies the eras of Andalusian literature, and does not forget to study ancient Arabic literary criticism and its most important trends and manifestations, then modern literature, its criticism, theories, trends, and stages of its development.

In addition, the Department of Arabic Language pays great attention to the study of the Holy Qur’anic text in terms of exposure to the analysis and study of its texts, showing its artistic and aesthetic characteristics and stylistic structures, and taking it as a reference in its linguistic, rhetorical, literary and aesthetic applications. The study of the department also includes an important aspect of the psychological and educational sciences in all stages of study in it, as it is a cadre that “practices the educational process within the community.

Higher study:

The Department of Arabic Language is not limited to primary studies only, but also grants higher degrees (Masters and PhD) in various disciplines of Arabic language and literature, as it includes a group of qualified professors who hold advanced scientific degrees and in various linguistic, literary, monetary and rhetorical specializations. Therefore, this department has graduated – since the opening of postgraduate studies in it in the year 2007 AD and until now – large numbers of students
