2.5: Sentence elements ( parts, constituents)
* Sub. and Verb are obligatory, other elements
      are optional 
* Sub + Verb + ( sub. comp, obj., adv., …)
     – George arrived.
     -George arrived late.
     – Ali became a teacher.
     – The maid broke the dish.
    – The farmer grew potato last year.
    – The class will elect Salim a monitor tomorrow.
  • * Only obj. and adv. Can be more than one:
  •     – Bob bought his son new phone last week.
  •     – Mother lent her sister a dress.
  •     — The girl is now a student at a large university.
  •   — The family received their gust warmly in the
  •        station yesterday.
Sub., Obj., and adv. Can be lengthened ( have internal constituents of sentences)
  • Sub:
  •      – The mistake caused the damage.
  •         – That the building bases were weak caused the damage.
  •   Obj.:
  •       -The judge thinks the reverse.
  •       -The judge thinks that the accused was totally innocent.
  •    Adv.:
  •      -The traveller grew  very sad suddenly.
  •      -The traveller grew very sad when she missed the train.
