Representations of War in the Novels of Najm Wali
On Wednesday, March 6, 2024, a Master’s thesis in Arabic language entitled “Representations of War in the Novels of Najm Wali” was discussed in the Hall of Knowledge at the College of Education for Humanities at the University of Kerbala. The thesis was presented by the student Sara Hibet Hamid in the Department of Arabic Language, Literature Branch.
The thesis was supervised by Professor Dr. Abdul Amir Mattar Fleeh. The study was divided into a preface and three chapters:
- The preface provided a brief overview of the novelist’s life, the concept of representations, and the impact of wars on literature.
- Chapter One examined the psychological and aggressive representations of war and was divided into two sections.
- Chapter Two discussed the social representations of war and was divided into two sections: the first focused on destructive policies and the second on ethical violations.
- Chapter Three explored the artistic representation of war and included three sections.
Methodology
The student used the descriptive analytical method to analyze the material of the novels and highlight the representations.
Findings
The study reached several conclusions, including:
- The image of war was presented as a great tool of destruction that not only crushed humans through death and destruction, but also left a destructive dimension in the living human. The image of decadence dominated the world in terms of values and principles, and psychological disturbances.
- The characters were shrouded in an aura of disturbance. They were troubled characters who suffered from fear, terror, the dominance of nightmares, obsessions with killing themselves, and the tendency towards physical and verbal violence.
Attendees
The discussion was attended by the Dean of the College, Professor Dr. Sabah Wajid Ali, the Assistant Dean for Administrative Affairs, Dr. Salah Majeed Al-Saadi, and a number of lecturers and students from the college.
Verdict
After an extensive scientific discussion by the scientific committee headed by Professor Dr. Mohammed Hussein Ali Hussein, the thesis was approved and the student was awarded a Master’s degree in Arabic Language
