Staff members from the Department of Applied Geography at the College of Education for the Humanities, University of Kerbala, participated in presenting a scientific workshop titled “The Speicher Massacre and Its Impact on State Unity and Cultural Identity: Research and Application Mechanisms,” organized by Al-Ameed University.

The workshop was delivered by Dr. Furqan Muhammad Abdul Majeed Al-Nasrawi and Dr. Osama Ahmed Abdul Sahib Al-Masoudi. The two lecturers focused on the Speicher Massacre and the concepts of ‘genocide’ within the context of ISIS’s policy of mass extermination. The workshop’s target audience included various groups, including professors, staff, and students of Al-Ameed University.

Moreover, the workshop covered several key topics, including: the general context and local/national environment, the evolution of ISIS in the study area and Iraq, as well as the ideology and policy of genocide, and research and application mechanisms.

The workshop concluded that there are legal and criminal foundations for recognizing the massacre as an international crime against humanity and a war crime. Furthermore, the crime occurred within the framework of Al-Qaeda and ISIS’s ideology, which targeted Iraqi societal unity and civil peace.
