As part of the activities and events of Global Entrepreneurship Week, the College of Education for the Humanities at University of Kerbala, in coordination with the Technology Section, organized a course on “The Role of Sustainable Development in Preserving the Ancient Civilizations of the World“. The course was presented by Dr. Khalood Habib Karim, Assist. Lect. IsraaMohammed Ali Abd-Al Karim Kassab, and Assist. Lect. Zainab Hammud Kazar, with the attendance of faculty members and students of the college.
The course aims to raise awareness about local culture and heritage through sustainable development, as well as to highlight the importance of preserving the history of the ancient civilizations of the world. It also focused on methods of preservation and protection from agricultural encroachments, military encroachments (such as the use of historical sites as military barracks during the U.S. occupation, and the destruction of heritage sites during the control of the terrorist group ISIS over archaeological sites in the northern and western provinces), residential encroachments, and poor urban planning. The course was specifically aimed to graduated students.
The course covered the following topics: the history of archaeological discoveries and methods of counting their age, the preservation and restoration of artefacts, and the role of sustainable development in promoting awareness of local culture and heritage.
