Master’s Thesis in the Department of Arabic Language Discusses the Poetic Space of Yass Al-Sa’eedi

A master’s thesis titled “The Poetic Space in Yass Al-Sa’eedi’s Work” was discussed in the Department of Arabic Language at the College of Education for the Humanities, University of Kerbala. The thesis was presented by researcher Alaa Majed Dawood under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Rafal Hassan Taha.

The significance of this thesis lies in the depth of its exploration of poetic texts, focusing on uncovering the beauty and creativity within them, as well as reflecting on the psychological aspects in a broad and profound manner.

The thesis consisted of three chapters: the first chapter examined the spatial dimension in Yass Al-Sa’eedi’spoetry, its forms, and meanings, while the second chapter focused on the temporal dimension in his work, including its patterns and themes. The third chapter explored the techniques of shaping poetic space and the methods used by Yass Al-Sa’eedi.

The thesis concluded with several key findings, including the observation that Al-Sa’eedi’s poetic language is marked by clarity and simplicity. The poet avoids complex and difficult words, yet his choice of words, through their construction, makes his style seem “effortlessly difficult.” While his vocabulary is simple, there is a certain level of complexity and ambiguity in his poetry, which showcases the poet’s skill. Moreover, Al-Sa’eedi is a deeply personal poet, with most of his poetry revealing his own sorrowful experiences, stemming from his childhood, the loss of his parents, and the harsh conditions of his society.

The discussion committee consisted of:
