The Department of Arabic Language at the College of Education for the Humanities at University of Kerbala held its annual celebration for World Arabic Language Day under the title “Arabic Language and the Challenges of the Age”
The event included two sessions. The first session has begun with the recitation of verses from the Holy Qur’an by Assist. Lect. Salam Salman Hussein, followed by the recitation of Al-Fatiha for the souls of the martyrs of Iraq and the playing of the national anthem. Then, a speech was delivered by Prof. Dr. Hadi Al-Saidi, the Dean, who talked about “The Day of the Arabic Letter” He has highlighted the honour of the Arabic language as the language of the Holy Qur’an, the eternal divine book, and its connection between heaven and earth. He has spokenabout its significance in shaping the identity and belonging of the Muslim individual. He has emphasized that the Arabic language continues to amaze researchers due to its vastness, meaning, and richness, with an unparalleled heritage compared to other languages. Arabic is consideredone of the wealthiest languages in the world, having received significant scholarly attention both in the past and present through countless works that highlight its characteristics, secrets, relations, and meanings.
Prof. Dr. Hadi Al-Saidi has urged that this occasion be an opportunity to address major challenges facing the Arabic language, the most prominent of which include: the need for laws and regulations to reconsider educational policies and preserve our language through the activation of the Law for the Preservation of the Integrity of the Arabic Language. He has also called for greater emphasis on proper writing in official correspondences, letters, and adherence to language rules in conferences, seminars, and training programs. Furthermore, he has advocated for creating a conducive environment where formal Arabic is used in educational settings for expression and communication, in addition to developing pronunciation skills, understanding styles, and improving performance. Finally, he has presented the importance of Arabic language by showcasing its unique characteristics, capabilities, and richness, as well as promoting the writing of research projects (theses and dissertations) on vital topics that address problems or phenomena highlighting the global relevance of the language.
The speech was followed by a word from Dr. Janan Al-Jubouri, the Head of the Arabic Language Department. The event also has featured a lecture by Prof. Dr. Omar Mahdiwi from Morocco on “Language Engineering and Artificial Intelligence.”
The session has also included a research paper presented by Dr. Sahib Jaafar Abu Janah, along with poetry recitations from Prof. Dr. Khudair Abbas Darwish from Al-Zahra University, Prof. Dr. Ali Kazem Mohammed Ali, and Prof. Dr. Falah Rasul Hassan. Additionally, top studentsfrom both the morning and evening Arabic Language departments were honoured.
The second session featured research papers presented by faculty members of the department, including Prof. Dr. Ali Abbas Ismail, Prof. Dr. Karima Nomas Mohammed, Prof. Dr. Hassan Abdul Ghani Mohammed, and Prof.Dr. Hassan Habib Azar
