As part of its academic activities and to enhance the practical training of students, the Department of Educational and Psychological Sciences at the College of Education for the Humanities, University of Kerbala, organised a scientific field trip to Ibn Rushd Psychiatric Training Hospital/ Baghdad/Rusafa Health Directorate. The field trip was attended by fourth-year evening study students under the direct supervision of the head of the department, Prof. Ahmed Abdul-Hussein Al-Azirjawi, and staff members.
Engaging students with community institutions fosters active and dynamic learning by allowing them to directly observe and understand the diverse needs of these institutions. Transitioning students from traditional classroom settings to interactive, practical environments prioritizes their hands-on learning experiences, maximizing the benefits of such initiatives.
The field trip aimed to equip students with scientific and practical skills by: observing real-life psychiatric cases, and attending therapy sessions provided to patients as part of their treatment plans.
Near the end of the field trip, students expressed their gratitude for the opportunity to gain insights into various psychiatric conditions and treatment methods. They emphasised the relevance of applying this knowledge in both academic and practical aspects of their specialization.
Additionally, the students toured the hospital’s departments, which included all forms of therapeutic sessions—preventive, developmental, and pharmaceutical—providing them with a comprehensive understanding of the institution’s operations.
