The College of Education for Humanities at the University of Kerbala organised a training course entitled ‘Teaching Skills for the Practicum Student’. (Asst. Prof. Sarmad Asadkhan Mohsen, lect. (PhD). Alaa Mohammed Abdul Radi, andAsst. Lect. Kazimiya Abdul Hadi) have lectured in the presence of college’s students.
The course aimed at familiarizing students with the skills needed for the application period.
The course included the following topics: 1- The concept of skill and what skills are needed for the applied student before teaching. 2- The skill of identifying teaching strategies. The skill of formulating general and special (behavioural) objectives. 4- As well as, the skills needed for the teacher during teaching, including the skill of asking questions, using educational tools, preparing educational activities, managing and controlling the class.5- The skills needed for the teacher after teaching, including the skill of evaluation of its types (pre-diagnostic, formative, and summative) and evaluation methods.
The course came up with several recommendations, most notably 1-Ensuring that the Practicum student learns how to develop clear and organised study plans. 2-The need to use various teaching strategies that suit different learning styles. 3- Classroom management. 4-The effective use of educational technology. 5- Continuous professional development by encouraging applied students to seek professional development opportunities, such as attending workshops and conferences.
