As part of its series of scientific seminars and educational workshops, the College of Education for the Humanities at the University of Kerbala held a symposium titled “The Theory of Politeness in the Thought of Imam Ali (PBUH): A Study in Style and an Attempt at Classification.” The Esteemed Dean of the College, Prof. Dr. Hadi Al-Sa’eedi, presented the seminar in the presence of a distinguished group of researchers, academics, and staff members.
The seminar provided an in-depth explanation of the concept of the theory of politeness in the thought of Imam Ali (PBUH), highlighting its practical application through the behavioural approach adopted by Imam Ali in various social, political, and religious contexts. Several anecdotes and narratives were presented as evidence of the theory, showcasing how Imam Ali (PBUH) engaged with others regardless of their titles or their social, political, or religious statuses.
Moreover, the seminar also introduced a comparative analysis of how the theory of politeness is applied in Western and other societies, juxtaposed with its implementation in the teachings and practices of Imam Ali (PBUH). This implementation of politeness in ismeant to serve as a blueprint for cultivating a strong moral identity and promoting societal harmony.
Key areas of focus were highlighted in the seminarincluding the application of politeness theory in expressions of gratitude and apology, modes of address, and acts of worshipping the Creator.
The event concluded with a vibrant discussion session, where attendees exchanged perspectives and shared insights, further enriching the symposium’s discourse and approach.
