Faculty Member Publishes Scientific Research in an International Journal

Dr. Sundus Mohammed Alwan, a faculty member in the Department of Applied Geography at the College of Education for the Humanities, University of Kerbala, published her scientific research titled “The Climatic Water Balance and Its Impact on the Water Consumption Requirements for Horticultural Crops in Al-Jadwal Al-Gharbi District, Kerbala Governorate” in the international journal Route Educational & Social Science Journal.

The research aims to calculate the climatic water balance and its effects on determining the water requirements for horticultural crops in Al-Jadwal Al-Gharbi area of Kerbala. It also highlights the critical role of climate factors in shaping the region’s water consumption needs.

Key findings indicate that climatic elements significantly influence water availability for horticultural crops in the region. However, the area suffers from a water deficit, with irrigation being the only feasible method to support agriculture.

The study offers several recommendations, including the importance of precisely defining water needs, developing structured plans for equitable water distribution based on cultivated areas, and launching awareness campaigns to educate farmers on advanced agricultural practices to minimize water loss from evaporation, leakage, and seepage, thus allowing irrigation of additional lands.
