Under the patronage of the President of the University of Kerbala, Prof. Dr. Sabah Wajid Ali, and the supervision of the Dean of the College of Education for the Humanities, Prof. Dr. Hadi Al-Sa’eedi, with the support of the Head of the Departmentof Geography, Prof. Dr. Murtadha Jaleel Al-Ma’mouri, the first edition of the Cultural Festival for Raising Awareness of the Crimes of Al-Ba’ath Party was inaugurated. The event, held under the theme “The Crimes of the Former Regime in Living Memory”, was organized in collaboration with the Kerbala Martyrs Directorate. The festival witnessed the participation of a delegation from the directorate, along with academics, faculty members, and students.
The festival began with a recitation of verses from the Holy Qur’an, followed by a moment of silence for Iraq’s martyrs, and the national anthem. Subsequently, the Dean of the College delivered a speech emphasizing the importance of raising awareness among students about the oppressive and tyrannical era experienced by the Iraqi people under the dictatorial Ba’ath Party. This was followed by speeches from the Head of the Department of Geography, a representative from the Kerbala Martyrs Directorate, and a documentary film highlighting the crimes of the party and its unjust leadership.
The festival aimed to spotlight the importance of documenting and disseminating knowledge about the regime’s crimes and human rights violations. By accurately and credibly presenting these events, it seeks to prevent their recurrence, uphold justice and accountability, and draw lessons from that era to hinder any attempts to distort facts or deny historical realities.
