The College of Education for the Humanities organizes a workshop on the Voice of Women at War Time

The Women’s Affairs Section at the College of Education for the Humanities at University of Kerbala organized a scientific workshop titled “The Voice of Women at War Time – A Study of Maysaloun Hadi’s Zainab, Mari, and Yasmin Novel,” which was presented by Prof. Dr. Rafal Hassan Taha, and managed by Assist. Prof. Dr. Ihood Tha’aban Youssef, with the attendance of teaching staff and students from the college.

The workshop aimed to highlight the stance of the Iraqi intellectual (novelist Maysaloun Hadi) on the reality of Iraqi women and the hardships they faced while living through the wars and the widespread chaos that afflicted Iraq before and after its occupation in 2003. It also explored the resulting decline in the contributions of Iraqi women, their struggle to gain their right to live with dignity, and the respect for their feelings and sacrifices. Additionally, it discussed how customs and traditions dominate important aspects of women’s lives, stripping them of their basic rights, such as the right to choose a husband and emotional stability.

The workshop included various key topics, notably the reality of women in Iraq, an analysis of how the novelist Maysaloun Hadi portrayed the female character in her novels, and a discussion of some of the solutions the author presented in an effort to change the situation of women in Iraq.
