The Department of History at the College of Education for the Humanities, University of Kerbala, held a defense session for the master’s thesis entitled “Content Analysis of Social Studies Textbooks at the Intermediate Level in Light of the Concept of Values and the Extent of Their Application by Students”. The thesis, authored by researcher Huda Hamid Khalil and supervised by Prof. Dr. Ouras Hashem Baiawi, focused on analyzing the content of social studies textbooks for intermediate grades through the lens of values.
The thesis aimed to develop a list of values that should be included in these textbooks, including citizenship values, tolerance, political values, scientific values, moral values, and economic values. Additionally, the study highlighted related literature and previous studies in the field.
The researcher provided several recommendations, including the need to hold workshops and seminars for social studies teachers to enhance their understanding of the diverse values embedded in the curriculum. The study emphasized not limiting instruction to pure historical content but incorporating value-oriented discussions. It also urged curriculum developers at the Ministry of Education to organize conferences and seminars involving educators to discuss the nature, impact, and methods of instilling and strengthening values in students.
