The Employment of Hebrew in the Arab-Israeli Conflict: A Workshop in the Department of English

As part of a series of significant academic workshops held by the Departments of the College of Education for the Humanities at the University of Kerbala, the Department of English held a workshop titled: “The Employment of Hebrew in the Arab-Israeli Conflict”, presented by Asst. Prof. Tawfiq Majid Ahmed (PhD). The event was attended by the Head of the department, along with a distinguished group of staff members.

Additionally, the workshop aimed to shed light on the negative role of the Hebrew language, particularly in media, politics, and education, as employed by political leaders and the extremist Zionists. Besides, it addressed Jewish perceptions of the Arabic language and how these views influence linguistic and ideological conflicts.

Key areas of focus were discussed in the workshop including the historical role of Hebrew in the Arab-Israeli conflict and the instrumentalization of language in shaping political and ideological narratives. In addition, case studies illustrating the use of extreme ideological discourse within the Hebrew language were also presented.
