A master’s thesis entitled “Imagery in Mahdi Jinah Al-Kadhimi’s Poetry” was debated in the Department of Arabic Language at the College of Education for Humanities, University of Kerbala. The thesis was conducted by Ali Atiyah Ghadhab, under the supervision of Prof. Mohammed Abdulrasool Jassim (PhD).
The significance of the thesis lies in the choice of the poet, Mahdi Jinah Al-Kadhimi, who focused on Ahl al-Bayt (peace be upon them), becoming one of the most prominent poets to write about their cause. His work is distinguished by expressive power, structural coherence, sincerity of purpose, simplicity of diction, aesthetic imagery, emotional depth, and a heartfelt sentiment shaped by the tragedies and sorrows endured by Ahl al-Bayt (peace be upon them). He enriched the history of Al-Taff incident and contributed to the service of the Arabic language through the creative elements found in his poetry.
Furthermore, the study consists of four chapters; the first discusses the sources of imagery in Al-Kadhimi’s poetry, the second addresses the techniques of image formation in his poetry, the third chapter explored the types of imagery, and the fourth chapter examined the functions of imagery in his poetic works.
Additionally, the study reached several conclusions, the most prominent of which is that Al-Kadhimi is a contemporary Iraqi poet passionately devoted to the love of Ahl al-Bayt (PBUT). His poetry reflects his sincere emotions and deep sensitivity, as the cause of Ahl al-Bayt (PBUT) is his own. He stands as a true extension of the poets who wrote in honour of the family of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), such as Du’bul Al-Khuza’i, Al-Sharif Al-Radhi, Mihyar Al-Daylami, Haidar Al-Hilli, and others. In light of this, he became the poet of Islamic doctrine, using imagery as a tool to express the oppression faced by Imams, their chosen companions, and their followers.
