A master’s thesis entitled “The Features of Lexical Facilitation in Al-‘abab al-Zakhir wa al-Lubab al-Fakhir by Al-Ṣaghani (d. 650 AH)” was debated in the Department of Arabic Language at the College of Education for Humanities, University of Kerbala. The thesis was conducted by Abeer Aqeel Khudair and supervised by Prof. Mohammed Hussein Ali Za’ein (PhD).
The importance of the thesis lies in the fact that the study of Arabic lexicons represents one of the most prominent research fields that has received great attention from scholars and researchers over the centuries. These studies focused on analysing the structure of individual words from various aspects. Scholars have always paid special attention to the compilation of dictionaries, which emerged in the Arab world alongside the dawn of Islam and the revelation of the Holy Qur’an — the primary catalyst for the development of many Arabic linguistic sciences, including lexicography. Additionally, several other factors contributed to the advancement of this field.
The study consists of three chapters. The first chapter explores the facilitative methodology of Al-‘abab al-Zakhir wa al-Lubab al-Fakhir. The second chapter clarified the foundations of lexical facilitation within the dictionary, while the third chapter addressed the advantages and drawbacks recorded in the lexicon Al-ʿAbāb al-Zākhir wa al-Lubāb al-Fākhir.
