Women’s Affairs Unit at the College of Education for the Humanities, University of Kerbala, organised a seminar titled “The Role of Women in Local Administration“. The event featured lectures by Asst. Prof. Kholoud Habeeb Kareem Al-Hasnawi(PhD), Asst. Prof. Sawsan Abbas Hussein(PhD), Asst. Lect. Zahraa Adnan Alwan, and Member of the Kerbala Provincial Council, Ms. Esraa Al-Nasrawi. Moreover, the seminar witnessed the attendance of staff members and students.
The seminar aimed to highlight the role of women from ancient times to the present day.
Several key themes were discussed, including the political and social roles of women in ancient history to emphasise that prehistoric societies regarded women as sacred due to their connection with the land and with the rise of cities, legal systems, and governance structures, women took on increasingly significant roles. The seminar also provided an overview of the Karbala Provincial Council, its internal regulations, and its powers.
Ms. Esraa Al-Nasrawi, a member of the Karbala Provincial Council, shared insights into her active role in local governance, presenting herself as a model for successful women in the political sphere.
It is worth noting that the Women’s Affairs Unit at the college continues to highlight the impact and contributions of women across various fields, including literature, academia, and politics.
