Symposium on “The Dangers of Violent Extremism on Social Peace” at the College of Education for the Humanities

Under the patronage of the Dean of the College of Education for the Humanities, Prof. Hadi Al-Sa’eedi(PhD), the college organised an educational scientific symposium titled “The Dangers of Violent Extremism on Social Peace”. The symposium was moderated by Prof. Ahmed Al-Azairjawi (PhD), Head of the Department of Educational and Psychological Sciences, in the presence of the esteemed Dean. The symposium witnessed the attendance of the First Deputy Governor Advisor of Karbala Mr. Ali Hussein Sadiq, the Assistant Dean for Scientific Affairs Prof. Muyyad Omran (PhD), and the Assistant Dean for Administrative Affairs Scientific Associate Dean, Asst. Prof. Salah Al-Saa’di (PhD), along with a distinguished group of staff members and students.

The importance of the Symposium lies in highlightingthe role of intellectual extremism in undermining societal peace and the serious consequences it poses to societies.

Furthermore, the symposium covered several critical topics, including the Moderation of Behaviour and Societal Progress – Presented by Prof. Ahmed Al-Azairjawi (PhD), the Role of Social Media in Promoting Extremism – Presented by Prof. Falah Hassan Kazar(PhD), Religious Extremism – Presented by Asst. Prof. Kadhim Hassan Jassim(PhD), A Psychological Analysis of Extremism – Presented by Asst. Prof. Dr. Ali Hammoud, and Violent ExtremismConcept and Means of Protecting Social Peace – Presented by Lect. Abbas Ubaid Al-Ameri(PhD).

The symposium involved a comprehensive discussion of extremism and social peace, with real-world examples, particularly focusing on ongoing terrorist activities in the Middle East and the role extremism plays in these events.

Last but not least, the symposium concluded with several key recommendations, including (i) Incorporating concepts of tolerance and moderation into educational curricula, (ii)Encouraging media outlets to intensify programs that promote rejecting extremism and respecting others, and (iii) Establishing organizations dedicated to hosting activities that reinforce social peace and denounce all forms of extremism.
