The Department of Arabic Language at the College of Education for the Humanities, University of Kerbala, organized a training Course in Writing titled:
“Developing Creative Writing Skills in Arabic”. Asst. Prof Khairallah Mahdi(PhD), Lect. Mais HibbatHamid(PhD), Lect. Nouman Jero Ali(PhD), and Lect. Bashar Latif Jawad(PhD) delivered the course targeting the students of the Department.
The course aimed to enhance participants’ creative writing abilities and refine their literary styles, develop their capacity for expressive and engaging writing, and guide them in transforming ideas into well-structured literary texts in fields such as short stories and poetry.
Moreover, the areas of interest that the course covered were (i) mechanisms for generating and developing ideas, (ii) techniques of narration and description in literary texts, (iii) methods for editing and improving text quality, and finally (iv) strategies to overcome writing difficulties and writer’s block.
Notably, the course witnessed active participation, with attendees sharing their personal writing experiences. Their work was constructively critiqued, which helped them gain a deeper understanding of creative writing fundamentals and encouraged them to refine their literary styles.
Last but not least, the course was concluded with several recommendations among which are the importance of continuous reading to expand literary knowledge, daily writing practice to improve fluency and creativity, exploring diverse literary styles to develop a unique voice, and receiving and utilizing constructive feedback to enhance the quality of written texts
