The Department of Applied Geography at the College of Education for the Humanities, University of Kerbala, organised a training course titled “Artificial Intelligence and Its Role in Building Sustainable Green Cities”. The course was delivered by Asst. Prof. Amin Awad Kazem(PhD), Lect. Noha Na’ma Mohammed(PhD), and Lect. Nibras Ahmed Kamel(PhD), and targeted the department’s students.
The course aimed to enhance students’ skills and draw their attention to the importance of studying the future of artificial intelligence applications, particularly within the context of the Fourth Industrial Revolution and beyond. It also sought to clarify the mechanisms for employing green AI technologies as a tool for building sustainable green cities, viewing them as key influencers across economic, social, health, and environmental domains.
Moreover, key topics were covered during the course including; an introduction to artificial intelligence and green cities, the goals, fields, and applications of AI in urban sustainability, the benefits of living in green cities, the challenges of AI implementation, and global case studies on green cities and their role in achieving sustainable development, with a focus on Karbala as a local model.
It is important to note that the College of Education for the Humanities at the University of Kerbala continues to pursue and promote sustainable practices, particularly in light of the global discourse on the dynamic relationship between human and artificial intelligence, aiming to secure a bright future through sustainable solutions.
