English Department Holds a Seminar to Conduct the M.A. Students’ Research

College of Education, English Department, holds a scientific seminar to monitor progress of the M.A. students to fulfil their research phase, discuss processes of scientific writing, identify main obstacles students face during this phase, and work on overcoming them in the future.
The seminar has been attended by the Head of the English Department, Asst. Prof. Dr. Raith Zuhair Abdul-Amir, and members of the Committee. The meeting deals with summaries of the research and discusses them scientifically to enhance quality of research output.

College of Education Holds a Scientific Symposium entitled”the Impact of Domestic Violence on Impeding Development Indicators (Education and Health)

Discussing certain common issues, Department of Geography, College of Education for Humanities, organizes a scientific symposium which is entitled “Domestic Violence and its Impact on Impeding Development Indicators (Education and Health).” The symposium has been delivered by Dr. Mahmoud Qahtan Mubdir, Dr. Mustafa Makki Jawad, Dr. Wissam Saad Hassan, and Dr. Haider Mohammed Zughair.

It addresses several key themes, including defining the concept of domestic violence and its various forms, highlighting relationship between domestic violence and human development, analyzing its impact on individuals’ educational attainment, and outlining its negative repercussions on physical and mental health.
This symposium achieves Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Goal 3, which focuses on good health and well-being; Goal 4, which emphasizes quality education; and Goal 5, which aims to promote gender equality and reduce all forms of violence against women. Reducing domestic violence is a key step towards promoting a healthy and sound educational environment, which contributes to achieve sustainable and inclusive human development.

University of Kerbala Organizes a Scientific Symposium on Male Dominance in Language and Literature

College of Education for Humanities, University of Kerbala holds a scientific symposium on “Male Dominance in Literature and Language.” The symposium, which has been delivered by Dr. Abbas Obaid Al-Amiri, Dean of the College; Prof. Dr. Hadi Al-Saidi, Dr. Hassan Al-Asadi, Dr. Rafal Al-Tai, and Dr. Hazem Alawi, includes a presentation on the concept of dominance, the nature of male authority, and tendency of its discourse to impose its centrality at the expense of women’s roles. It also addresses cultural consequences of prevalence of male dominance in its various forms, both explicit and implicit, in discourses and texts.
To highlight manifestations of male dominance in language and literature, the symposium has discussed ways to strengthen discourse that supports women’s status and role in cultural and intellectual development.

University of Kerbala Organizes a Scientific Symposium on the Role of Language in Intellectual Conflict

With participation of professors from University of Kerbala and Al_Qadisiyah University,College of Education for Humanities, University of Kerbala holds a scientific symposium on “Language as a Site of Intellectual Conflict”.
The symposium aims at exploring the role of language in shaping intellectual and cultural conflicts, understanding how it is employed in transmitting knowledge, and analyzing its impact on societies in context of globalization and contemporary challenges.
Dr. Sami Bashir Al-Hasnawi, Qadisiyah University addresses a shift in understanding of culture and language, critiquing traditional view of culture and highlighting the concepts of relativism, hybridity, and acculturation in context of globalization. He also discusses problematic nature of English language as a tool for liberation.
In similar token, Dr. Raed Dakheel Kareem, Qadisiyah University, examines application of evaluation theory and systemic functional linguistics to José Saramago’s novel “Blindness,” clarifying ideological, social, and political dimensions of the text.
Dr. Muthanna Makki Muhammad, University of Kerbala, deals with trilogy of the poet Hilda Doolittle, explaining how language becomes an arena of cognitive conflict, during the Second World War.

Two Staff Members from the College of Education for the Humanities Lecture at a Seminar on Climate Change at the College of Computer Science

Prof. Haider Mohammed Al-Kuraity (PhD) and Asst. Lect.Anfal Khudair Abbas, both from the Department of Applied Geography at the College of Education for the Humanities, University of Kerbala, delivered lectures during an online seminar entitled “Climate Change: Its Effects and Means of Addressing It.” The seminar was organised by the Women’s Affairs Unit at the College of Computer Science and Information Technology and targeted the academic and administrative staff at the University of Kerbala.

The seminar aimed to raise public awareness about the environmental dangers of climate change.

It covered the following topics: an introduction to the concept of climate change, its causes and effects, as well as potential solutions.

In pursuit of shared goals and the development of effective strategies to uphold order, respect, productivity, equality, and justice within the work environment, the Legal Affairs Division at the College of Education for the Humanities, University of Kerbala, in cooperation with the University’s Legal Affairs Department, organized a legal workshop entitled “A Detailed Explanation of the State and Public Sector Employees’ Discipline Law No. 14 of 1991 (as amended)”.

The workshop was delivered by Dr. Ali Subhi Omran, Director of the Legal Affairs Department at the University Presidency, and Abeer Mohi Mustafa Al-Ta’ma, Director of the College’s Legal Affairs Division.

The workshop aimed to provide a comprehensive explanation of the amended Law No. 14 of 1991, its contents, and its implications—outlining the duties and rights of public employees, their obligations, and the penalties for violations of state institutional laws.

The workshop addressed three primary topics: the duties employees must observe within state institutions; employee rights; and administrative penalties, including methods of appealing such penalties.

Department of Arabic Organizes a Workshop on Poetic Necessity Between Prosody and Grammar

The Department of Arabic at the College of Education for theHumanities, University of Kerbala, organized a workshop entitled “Poetic Necessity Between the Sciences of Prosody and Grammar”, delivered by Asst. Prof. Dr. Ahoud Thu’ban YousifAl-Asadi and Lect. Dr. Qusay Thu’ban Yousif Al-Asadi.

The workshop aimed to introduce students to the concept of poetic necessity, its types, its significance to poetry, and the grammatical perspective on it. It also sought to clarify the relationship between the science of prosody, which focuses on meter, and the science of grammar, which focuses on parsing and syntactic structure.

The workshop covered the following topics: the definition of poetic necessity; poetic necessity in relation to the science of prosody; poetic necessity in relation to the science of grammar; and the various types of poetic necessity.

“Culture of Participation in Decision-Making” – A Training Course at the College of Education for the Humanities

The Continuing Education Unit at the College of Education for the Humanities, University of Kerbala, has organized a training course titled “Promoting the Culture of Participation in Decision-Making,” delivered by Prof. Dr.Sadiq Obbeis Al-Shafei and Prof. Dr. Ali Turki Al-Fatlawi.

The course has aimed to shed light on the concept of participation in decision-making as a process grounded in scientific principles and based on well-defined and thoughtful steps. It emphasized the importance of adhering to these steps in order to arrive at decisions that are accurate, effective, and in the public interest. Additionally, the course distinguished between the processes of decision-making and decision-taking.

The course, which was attended by a selected group of faculty and administrative staff, concluded with an exploration of the concept of participation in decision-making, its significance within communities and institutions, and the key mechanisms and methods that contribute to spreading this culture across different sectors.

The College of Education for the Humanities Organizes a Scientific Seminar on Applying for Graduate Studies in Iraq

As part of its on-going efforts to support students, provide essential information, and enhance their academic opportunities, the College of Education for the Humanities at the University of Kerbala has organized a scientific seminar titled: “Discussion of the Items, Articles, and Regulations for Applying and Admission to Graduate Studies in Iraq for the Academic Year 2025/2026.”

The seminar has been presented by the Dean’s Assistant for Scientific Affairs, Dr. Moayad Omran Chiyad, along with Assist. Lect. Haider Saud Khudair and Assist. Lect. Mohammed Nazim Ubaid.

The seminar has aimed at the committees responsible for processing applications for the competitive examination for graduate studies within the departments of the college, in addition to the file submission committee, and the two committees for verifying documents and auditing the application system.

Several key topics have been covered, including:

• General conditions and requirements for applying and admission to graduate programs in Iraq

• Required documents for submission

The seminar has witnessed strong engagement from attendees, with an open discussion session that has included questions on available opportunities, admission criteria, and application procedures.

“Environmental Impact Assessment of Industrial Projects”: A Scientific Seminar Held by the Department of Applied Geography

The Department of Applied Geography at the College of Education for the Humanities, University of Kerbala, organised a scientific seminar titled “Environmental Impact Assessment of Industrial Projects.” The seminar featured presentations by Lect. Abbas Abdul Ameer Al-Umari(PhD), Lect. Zaid Kamil Jawad(PhD), Asst. Lect. Anfal Khudair Abbas, and Asst. Lect.Dhiya Qahtan Al-Ukabi, and was attended by staff members and students.

The seminar aimed to raise awareness about the importance of Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) as a vital tool for environmental protection and sustainable development. It covered the core concepts and principles of EIA, including its stages, procedures, and established standards. Discussions also focused on identifying and evaluating the potential negative environmental effects of industrial projects, strategies for mitigation, and promoting a balance between industrial growth and the preservation of natural resources.
