The Effect of Meaning on Grammatical Guidance in Al-Khazanah by Al-Baghdadi

Abstract:
The study focuses on The Treasury of Literature and the Core of Bab Lisan al-Arab by Abdul Qadir bin Omar al-Baghdadi, a comprehensive work born out of rare texts and Arab proverbs. Notably, it serves as an elucidation of Radhi al-Din al-Istarabadi’s commentary on Al-Kafiya, containing (957) witnesses. Al-Baghdadi’s dedication of this book to Sultan Muhammad Khan bin Ibrahim Khan Al-Uthmani and his high regard for the commentator, Al-Radi Al-Istarabadi, showcase the book’s academic significance. Al-Baghdadi praised Al-Radi’s explanation for its scholarly value, describing it as a profound elucidation surpassing his contemporaries.
The significance of The Treasury of Literature as an encyclopedic reference, preserving lost texts and enriching previous scholarly reports, led Abd al-Salam Haroun to immortalize Al-Baghdadi’s name. This work stands as the pinnacle encyclopedia in Arabic sciences and literature, retaining rare texts that would have otherwise vanished. Al-Baghdadi meticulously documented his six-year writing process, highlighting the significance of his compositions.
This study aims to scrutinize Al-Baghdadi’s reliance on semantics in his grammatical analysis within The Treasury of Literature. It endeavors to elucidate the independent perspectives evident in his commentary on verses. The investigation focuses on two primary sections: the impact of semantics on grammatical direction in nouns and verbs. By analyzing Al-Baghdadi’s approach and avoiding subjective deductions, this study seeks to reveal new facets of Arabic linguistic analysis through his unique interpretations and discussions.
