The Department of Educational and Psychological Sciences at the College of Education for the Humanities, University of Kerbala, organized an awareness workshop entitled “The Role of Universities in Combating Drug Abuse.” The workshop featured presentations by Asst. Prof. Dr. Hossam Saleh Abdul-Hussein, Asst. Prof. Dr. Haneen Kazem Hindi, and Lect. Zahraa Seham Hindi, with the attendance of departmental students.
The workshop aimed to raise students’ awareness of the physical, psychological, and social impacts of addiction on the individual, their family, and society at large. It also sought to equip students with methods to counteract addiction and to empower them with the tools and techniques necessary to serve as advocates for others.
Topics covered included: the definition of drugs, their types, symptoms, causes, the legal implications of drug use, as well as methods of prevention and treatment, and the role of universities in limiting drug abuse.
Key recommendations included: strengthening religious awareness among youth, calling upon the government to establish integrated rehabilitation centers in each province, and maintaining continuous health education about the dangers of drug use and addiction.
