Thesis at the College of Education for the Humanities Discusses the Prophetic Mission in the “Proofs of Prophethood” Literature

The Department of History, College of Education for the Humanities, University of Kerbala, discussed a Master’s thesis entitled “The Prophetic Mission in the Proofs of Prophethood‘ Literature: An Analytical Study”. The thesis was submitted by the MA student, Aqeel Mahdi Abdullah, under the supervision of Prof. Abeer Abdulrasool Al-Tamimi(PhD).

The study aimed to analyse the different books surrounding the topic of ‘Proofs of Prophethood’ authored by early scholars. It further aimed to explore the distinction between Prophethood and the Prophetic Mission.

In light of the above aims, the study is structured in three chapters: the first chapter examined the fundamental concepts related to the topic, while the second discussed the prophetic signs announcingthe mission of the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him and his household) as documented in the literature of the Proofs of Prophethood. Finally, the third chapter focused specifically on the depiction of the Prophetic Mission in these books.

Notably, the results of the thesis indicated that there were numerous preludes, signs, and prophetic announcements regarding the mission of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) conveyed through earlier prophets, divine scriptures, scholars, monks, sages, and kings.
The study also concluded that much of the literature circulating around the topic ‘Proofs of Prophethood’, along with some historical and exegetical works, contains elements that undermine or detract from the honourable status of the Prophet (PBUH), thus rendering them unreliable for use as primary sources.
