The Department of Arabic Language at the College of Education for the Humanities, University of Kerbala, held a PhD debate for candidate Saleem Aswad Madloul. His dissertation, titled “Grammatical Analysis in Abi Al-Saoud’s Tafseer (d. 982 AH) in Light of the Theory of Clues,” was supervised by Asst. Prof. Aliaa Nosrat Hassan(PhD).
The study aimed to analyse the grammatical structures within AbiAl-Saoud’s Quranic commentary to uncover the linguistic intricacies and contextual meanings through the lens of the Theory of Clues.
The dissertation consisted of three chapters, preceded by an introduction outlining the life of Abi Al-Saoud and a detailed explanation of the Theory of Clues. The chapters examined phonetic and morphological clues, semantic and structural syntactic indicators, and situational/contextual clues.
Notably, the dissertation reached several conclusions, among which is that the pause clue is a pivotal clue in interpretation and omitting such clues leads to interpretive inconsistencies. In light of this, the Quranic text carries probability in grammatical analysis.
