A Master’s thesis titled “Scientific Centers in Iraq through the Writings of Maghrebi Travelers during the Late Abbasid Era (474–656 AH / 1055–1258 AD)” was discussed in the Department of History at the College of Education for Humanities, University of Karbala. The thesis was presented by student Shaimaa Abdul Sahib Abdul Ameer and supervised by Professor Dr. Maytham Murtadha Mustafa.
The study aimed to shed light on the intellectual and scientific exchange between Iraq—considered the center of the civilized and political world and the intellectual hub for Muslims—and the Maghreb region, which experienced a significant scientific renaissance since its foundation.
The thesis comprised three chapters:The first chapter explored the concept, history, and literature of travel.The second chapter focused on the cultural and geographical connections between Iraq and the Maghreb during the Abbasid period.The third chapter examined scientific centers and the mutual cultural influence between Iraq, the Maghreb, and Al-Andalus.
