A doctoral dissertation titled “Lord Robert Banks Jenkinson, Earl of Liverpool, and His Role in British Politics (1770–1828)” was defended in the Department of History at the College of Education for the Humanities, University of Kerbala, by the candidate Karar Hussein Mohammed, under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Haider Sabri Shakir.
The importance of the study lies in shedding light on one of the most prominent political figures in British history during the final decade of the 18th century and the first half of the 19th century, highlighting his role in British politics during his tenure in high-ranking offices and his active participation in the House of Commons, as well as his major achievements.
The dissertation consists of five chapters. The first chapter examines the life, family background, and early upbringing of Lord Robert Banks Liverpool. The second chapter explores the beginning of his political career between 1790 and 1796, including his admissioninto Parliament and initial political activities in the House of Commons. The third chapter discusses his policies and political positions during his time as Home Secretary and later as Prime Minister. Chapters four and five focus on his role in internal reforms and his most significant foreign achievements.
