The Department of Applied Geography at the College of Education for the Humanities, University of Kerbala, discussed the PhD dissertation entitled “Spatial Analysis of Urban Quality of Life in Al-HurCity Using Geographic Information Systems (GIS)”, submitted by researcher Abeer Yassin Nasser and supervised by Prof. Dr. Wasan Shihab Ahmed.
The significance of this study lies in its focus on the urban quality of life in Al-Hur City, which is considered a fundamental topic in the study of modern urban development and in improving levels of well-being to enhance sustainability in cities and communities. Additionally, the study provides a tool for decision-makers and planners to advance the reality of the city’s urban environment.
The dissertation aimed to investigate the reality of the urban quality of life in Al-Hur City utilizing Geographic Information Systems, as well as to classify the study area into several levels according to the quality of life, based on relevant information and data.
The study concluded that there is a spatial variation in the quality of urban life in Al-Hur City, revealed through a number of objective indicators adopted in the research, including (urban, service-related, economic, and residential environment indicators), in addition to subjective indicators related to the residents’ level of satisfaction.
