With Academic Participation from the University of Carthage… The Department of English Organises a Webinaron Language Studies

As part of a series of lectures in the field of English Language Teaching to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL), and in the context of international academic collaboration, the Department of English at the College of Education for the Humanities, University of Kerbala, organised a webinar titled: “English for Specific Purposes (ESP): General Characteristics.”

Prof. Lobna Bint Nasr (PhD), from the University of Carthage, delivered the webinar. A distinguished attendance was made by Prof. Muyyad Omran Chiad (PhD), Assistant Dean for Scientific Affairs, and under the supervision of the Head of the Departmentof English, Asst. Prof. Dheyaa Khaleel Nayel. The webinar also saw active engagement from the academic staff members.

The lecture aimed to introduce attendees to the concept of ESP, its key theoretical and applied branches, and how to effectively implement ESP to improve the educational process and empower learners. It also explored contemporary theories in the field and practical approaches to align language instruction with labourmarket demands and the development of specialized language skills.

Furthermore, the event witnessed thoughtful contributions from several staff members, focusing on ways to integrate ESP into academic curricula and maximise its educational impact.

In turn, the Head of the Department, Asst. Prof. Nayel expressed his sincere appreciation to the guest lecturer, Prof. Lobna Bint Nasr (PhD), for the valuable insights she shared. He further emphasised the importance of organising such academic engagements in enhancing scholarly work and promoting the exchange of expertise with leading educational institutions.
