THE COLLEGE OF EDUCATION FOR THE HUMANITIES ORGANIZES A TRAINING WORKSHOP ON DIGITAL MEDIA LITERACY

The Department of Media and Government Communication, in cooperation with the Continuing Education Unit at the College of Education for Humanities at the University of Kerbala, organized a training workshop entitled “Digital Media Literacy and How to Deal with the Power of Image, Sound, and Word.” Presented by Asst. Dr. Marwa Radhi Kazim Al-Asadi and Asst. Dr. Muhammad Hassoun Salman, the workshop was moderated by Prof. Dr. Uday ObaidanAl-Jarrah. The workshop targeted faculty, administrators, and students at the college.

The workshop aimed to enhance the digital media literacy skills of recipients and provide them with the necessary knowledge to engage consciously with digital media and its content. This helps reduce its negative impact and enhances their ability to benefit from it in a positive and constructive manner. The workshop included several topics, most notably: defining the concept of digital media literacy, clarifying the relationship between education and the media, the objectives of digital media literacy, and digital media literacy skills.

The workshop concluded with recommendations including: including digital media literacy as a curriculum in colleges of education, arts, and related disciplines; developing students’ technical skills in using information verification tools and combating false and misleading content; organizing media awareness campaigns within universities to inform students of the dangers of misleading media and ways to combat it; and organizing periodic workshops and seminars to increase student awareness of the dangers of unregulated digital media.
