The College of Education for the Humanities at the University of Kerbala organised a workshop titled “The Role of Iraqi Legislation in Regulating State Control of Weapons and Its Impact on Social Peace,” presented by Asst. Lect. Aliyaa Basim Al-Masoudi.
The workshop aimed to highlight the dangers of the widespread possession of weapons, which often leads to unethical behaviours, poses a threat to social harmony, and undermines societal stability. The session emphasised that restricting weapons to state control is of critical importance in Iraq, especially given the country’s prolonged experience with instability and security challenges.
Notably, the workshop addressed the following key areas: the underlying reasons for the proliferation of arms in Iraq, the legal framework governing arms control by the state, and the impact of centralised arms control on fostering social peace.
