A Doctoral Dissertation at the College of Education for the Humanities Explores the Civilizational Relations between Kairouan and Bilad al-Sham: A Historical Study

At the Department of History, College of Education for the Humanities, University of Kerbala, a doctoral dissertation entitled:

“Civilizational Relations between Kairouan and Biladal-Sham during the Almoravid and Almohad Eras (448 AH – 668 AH): A Historical Study,”

by the researcher Ahmad Heel Sukhayl, under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Kawthar Hassan Hindi, was examined.

The dissertation aimed to contribute to the advancement of civilization by shedding light on the historical and cultural relations between Kairouan and Bilad al-Sham, highlighting the intellectual and social interactions and experiences that took place through those relations.

The dissertation comprised four chapters. The first chapter focused on the political relations between the Almoravids and Almohads’ caliphs and emirs andBilad al-Sham’s.  The second chapter examined the economic relations between the two regions. The third chapter investigated the civilizational relations in the scientific field, while the fourth chapter explored the social relations between Kairouan and Bilad al-Sham during the Almoravid and Almohad periods.

The study reached several key conclusions, most notably the peak of these relations through continuous communication between these cities and the intellectual and social developments that occurred, despite the political fluctuations and ongoing conflicts of that time. Furthermore, it revealed the positive impact of these relations, communication, and solidarity between Kairouan and Bilad al-Sham on the social, scientific, and political spheres.
