The Department of Applied Geography at the College of Education for the Humanities, University of Kerbala, held a PhD dissertation defense titled “Geographic Evaluation of the Educational and Teaching Workforce and Its Efficiency in Primary and Secondary Education in Babylon Province” by researcher Anwar Hussein Alwan, under the supervision of Prof. Ahmed Hamoud Muhsen Al-Saa’di (PhD) as the first supervisor and Prof. Sadiq Ubaiss Mankour (PhD), the second supervisor.
The study aims to reveal the developmental trends of the educational workforce in Babylon’s Directorate of Education, examine their spatial distribution, and assess the suitability of this distribution in relation to population density. It also seeks to evaluate the workforce’s functional efficiency according to standard educational criteria.
Furthermore, the study highlights that the success of the educational process does not rely solely on teachers and instructors; other factors play a crucial role, such as individual differences among students, curriculum design, ministerial decisions, availability of educational resources, parental involvement, and administrative support in schools.
Among the key findings of the study is a notable disparity in the numerical, gender-based, environmental, and educational distribution of the teaching workforce across administrative units in the province. The data revealed a higher proportion of females compared to males and an overall mismatch between workforce distribution and planning standards. The study also points to a significant shortage in qualified staff, particularly in scientific specializations.
Following an in-depth academic discussion, the dissertation was approved with a rating of Excellent.
