Dean of the College of Education for the Humanities Attends Seminar on ‘Carbon Literacy’ at the American University

Prof. Hadi Al-Sa’eedi (PhD), Dean of the College of Education for the Humanities at the University of Kerbala, accompanied by Asst. Lect. Ahmed Hameed Al-A’abidi, Head of the Scholarship Unit, attended the “Carbon Literacy” seminar hosted by the Centrefor Excellence in Innovation and Development (formerly the Institute of Continuing Education) at the American University. The event was held in collaboration with Turner & Townsend and the Jana’in al-Iraq Organisation for Sustainable Development. Moreover, the seminar was attended by Iraq’s Deputy Minister of Environment, Prof. Jassem Al-Falahi(PhD), along with severalexperts and specialists in the field.

The seminar highlighted the importance of environmental awareness and carbon literacy in shaping a more sustainable future. In his speech, Al-Falahi emphasised the significance of national coordination for environmental efforts and the role of governmental policies in advancing sustainability.

The program included a series of thought-provoking panel discussions. Lect. Amjad Sa’eed (PhD) delivered a lecture on environmental management, while Sarah McClelland from Turner & Townsend shared practical insights on carbon literacy and its applications. The Jananin Iraq team discussed the construction sector’s contribution to emissions and the utilisation of natural resources.

It is worth noting that the symposium underscored the critical role of education and inter-institutional collaboration as a foundational step toward building a more climate-conscious and responsive society.
